Use a list wildcard in your trial file

Wildcards are a powerful feature that allow you to create complex experiment setups and at the same time reduce clutter and redundancies in your trial file as well as allowing you to design experiments not easily possible before.

Usually, each row of the trial file corresponds to an experiment trial. Wildcards help you separate the elements of a trial that stay the same from from those that change from trial to trial.

To use wildcards you need 3 elements:

  • A stimulus list: You will upload your list(s) alongside the trial file to the "files" section of your project

  • The wildcard: A placeholder in the stim column paired with a "list" stimFormat

  • listOptions: Powerful operators to customise how elements are pulled from the list into your trials.
